Kindergarten Readiness in a Christian Atmosphere May, 2008 Our Final Month… Preschool years are a time when children develop basic knowledge, understanding, and interests they need to reach the goal of being successful learners, readers and writers. At Trinity Lutheran Preschool, we believe that all young children deserve enriching experiences that will help them achieve this goal. In addition, we truly believe that all children have God-given potential and when guided and nurtured, will develop this potential in order to become all that God created them to be. Miss Tracy and I treasure each moment we spent with your child, and hope you’ve found Trinity Lutheran Preschool to be all you hoped for your child’s preschool year/s. The month of May is moving much too quickly, and so soon graduation day will be upon us. We’ve filled up our days this month with some fun activities. Thankfully, God blessed us with warm weather on Popsicle picnic day. We lounged on blankets under beautiful skies while enjoying our cool treats. On water play day, we filled our sand and water table to the top and took turns playing in the water with boats and ducks. Ice cream cones were a special treat on this day. We enjoyed all the “silly” show and tell items on Wednesday, May 7th and look forward to those “red” ones next time. We’ve been practicing, practicing, practicing for our big day and made and decorated our own graduation hats recently. On or near the first day of preschool back in September, Miss Tracy checked the height of each child, and recently checked again. We were amazed by how much they had grown in 9 months! Several children had grown over 2 inches, including Jack, Shelby, Erin, Kyle, Alea and Jacob. Karsen, Sophia, Stephanie and Kimberly had grown over 1 inch, and Carter, who didn’t join us until November, grew ¾” in 6 months. Yes….we’ve grown, but in more ways than one. Not only have we grown taller, but we’re a little wiser too. What HAVE WE learned? We learned to notice little acts of kindness in our classroom by recording each one on a chart. I’m happy to report that our chart is overflowing with stickers. We learned just how long it takes to read 100 books by recording each one as it was read. (Some doubted we’d ever get there but we did, and we celebrated our accomplishment with a party.) By reading chapter books, we learned to wait patiently and expectedly for the next part of the story. We learned songs, Bible verses, letters and numbers. We learned to use our scissors correctly and learned how to print our names. Yes…we have learned a lot. But most importantly, we learned that each one of us is special and uniquely created by a God who loves us very much. It’s hard to believe it’s over! This has been an amazing class and an amazing year. Among other things, we have enjoyed Alea’s energy, Stephanie’s smile, Carter’s sense of humor, Jacob’s leadership, Kimberly’s sweetness, Kyle’s kindness, Erin’s enthusiasm, Shelby’s laughter, Jack’s stories, Sophia’s charm, and Karsen’s friendship. We will miss these things about your children, and so much more. God’s blessings to Alea, Carter, Jacob, Erin, Shelby, Jack and Sophia as they head off to Kindergarten in the fall. Please come back and visit us! We’ll look forward to next school year when Stephanie, Kimberly, Karsen and Kyle will join us for another exciting year at Trinity Lutheran Preschool. Thanks to all for allowing those of us at Trinity Lutheran Preschool to be a part of your child’s life this year.
